Two years ago I started learning memory verses as a part of the Memory Verse Team that Beth Moore started on her blog. It has been an amazing way to hear God speak to me through His Word. I decided to ask my friends and family if they will join me in learning new verses this year. On the 1st and 15th of each month we will learn a new verse. I have found that telling my friends about my memory verses is a way to help me keep my commitment to learn a new verse every two weeks. Please share your verse with us by commenting on this blog.

Memory verse for 3/1/12

Last night I went to an organ recital and we sang the CN hymn, God of Beauty, Truth, and Goodness. It was beautiful and I was reminded again why I am here. Sometimes I wonder if I am in the right place that God has for me. I get discouraged or worried about all the problems I see. But then when I least expect it, the reasons I am here are clear and I know this is right. My verse is one about the inheritance that we have been given and how he will keep me secure.

Psalms 16:5-6
LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup;
you have made my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
surely I have a delightful inheritance.

Memory Verse for 2/15/12

I chose this verse because I was reminded of it in Sunday School. With David's wedding this week I am overwhelmed with the gifts that God has given.

James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Memory Verse for 2/1/12

This verse was part of one of my recent devotions. It is amazing to think that God will let his light shine in our hearts, even though they are jars of clay.

2 Corinthians 4:6-7
For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all- surpassing power is from God and not from us.

Memory Verse for 1/15

I just realized that somehow I never posted my 1/15 verse on the blog. Better late then never. I don't know if anyone reads this blog, but I would love it if you would post a verse in a comment.

Luke 6:45
Good people bring good things out of the good stored up in their hearts, and evil people bring evil things out of the evil stored up in their heart. For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

Memory Verse for Jan. 1 2011

I selected this verse for the new year. I want to remember that wisdom comes from carefully thinking about each day that God gives us and be thankful for all he gives.

Psalm 90:12, NIV
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Memory Verse for December 15

I choose this verse as a way to really think about how amazing the coming of Jesus really is.

John 1:14, TNIV
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only [Son], who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Memory Verse for 12/1/11

I was late in selecting a verse this time. December 1 was here before I realized it. I just couldn't find a verse that was right. Then last night at the Christmas tree lighting at the music building I heard very familiar scripture in a new way. It is so interesting how God's word is like that. I have chosen John 1:1-5 for this time and next time I am going to memorize following verses. I just was reminded how Mary held this baby that had created the whole world and was amazed again by Jesus love and sacrifice.

John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
In him was life, and that life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
